Inland Northwest Land Trust protects the region’s natural lands, waters, and working farms and forests for the benefit of wildlife, our community, and future generations.
We work with willing private landowners and other partners to protect natural open spaces that contribute to our community’s quality of life.
To do that we focus on conserving the special places that nourish wildlife and preserve the clean air, clean water, and scenic beauty of our region.
In 2007, INLT protected 11 special places. INLT has now helped protect over 8, 000 acres, including nearly 28 miles of shoreline.
I started with the land trust in 2001. As the Director of Development and Communications, I am responsible for raising money as well as spreading the word about INLT. Before that, I worked at Spokane AIDS Network for nine years. My last job title was Finance Director but I had been involved with their fundraising and grant writing as well.
As you can see I have a fondness for nonprofit work. I am fortunate that I get paid to do what I love. My grandparents and parents were active volunteers and philanthropists. I was expected to give back to the community in the same way I was expected to go to college. It was just part of what one did.
Being on the INDC executive committee is one more way I can give back to the development community. I learn so much at INDC meetings – both from the speakers and from the other members. I hope that I can give back to INDC as much as I have received.
I love living in Spokane. People are friendly, there are lots of opportunities to get outside and play, and it’s so easy to live here. We have all the benefits of the “big city” plus all the benefits of being close to nature. I moved here from Southern California in the early ‘90s. Yup, this is a great place to be. I hope that I am giving back to Spokane as well.
