President's Message
The year has gone by quickly, and a lot of things have changed.  Our economy is in a recession, unemployment is approaching 10% and the state budget is facing serious cuts that threaten essential services to those who need them most.  Despite this fairly grim picture, I feel optimistic about two things.

First, I am hopeful and humbled by those in our community who give what they can even when times are tough.  Just the other day I had a donor come in who was just laid off.  He told me he couldn't give much, but still wanted to help.  Even though he only gave $25, in some ways I feel much more blessed from that gift than a $25,000 gift.

Our donors are rallying around us -- weaving a net of hope that will support us and hold us steadfast as long as we continue to communicate our need.  Even if that net is made up of thousands of small donations, or one large one, I feel blessed, more than ever.  Even a penny is a penny more than we had, and every dollar that we raise goes to help those who are in need.

Second, I know that once this terrible chapter in our economy is over, we may walk away from it a bit scarred, but not defeated.  We will not allow ourselves to be defeated.  Our donors won't allow it to happen, and neither will the community.  Because, woven together, we are much stronger than we are apart.  Change may take time, and break a few strings, but most change makes us stronger, more resilient and capable.  Most importantly, we are able to learn from our mistakes; hopefully preventing them in the future.

One thing that will change soon in INDC is our leadership.  As I pass the torch to Lorna Walsh, our incoming president, I know that INDC is stronger because of my board's work this year and will be even stronger in the years ahead.  We are very excited about the possibility of obtaining accreditation for CFRE continuing education, and our membership continues to stay strong, thanks, in part, to some excellent programming this year.

I wish you all the very best summer and turly hope that every single one of your organizations comes out of this recession with a much bteter appreciation of the community, of your donors and the resilient power of hope.

Best wishes,

Keith O'Brien
President

More about the program...

Know Thy Donor

Presented by Mary Savage, Development Director
Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery

Do you know who is supporting your organization?  How well do you know your donors?  How do you get to know them?  Why do they support your mission?  What kind of information do you know about your donors?   How do you track information about your donors, spouses, children and grandchildren?

Mary Savage will share ways to connect with donors, and why the Crisis Nursery is moving away from an event-driven model to a more sustainable, one-on-one funding model.

Hope to see you there!

"Give Local": Special Networking Session
You've undoubtedly heard the phrase "Buy Local."  So what are we, as fundraisers, doing do spread the message of "Give Local"?

The INDC Board cordially invites you to join us a little early at our next meeting for this special networking session as we glean from each others' experiences fundraising in the local economy.  What's working, and not working?  How are we reaching out to local donors and prospects?

The Fosseen Room will be open at 11 a.m. prior to our meeting to accomodate this session.

The INDC membership year runs from Sept. 1 - Aug. 31.

Click here for the 2009-10 INDC Membership Application.

If you need an invoice, please contact Bobbie League, INDC Treasurer.

Remember to renew before Sept. 1.  If you don't, you will lose access to the members-only section of the website.
